Kolkata to raise its voice to protect Indian History & Culture

‘Vande Mataram’, who will forget these famous lines from ‘Anand Math’ by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.  These words inspired a generation of Indian Freedom fighters and continue to inspire us even in the 21’st century.
On 22’nd July, 2012 many in Kolkata will march from College Square at 4:30PM to protect their ‘Maa Bharati’ from an existential threat to India’s History and Culture

As we all know that TV has become such an important part of our lives. Our children are exposed to TV day in and out and what is shown in TV impacts all of us collectively as a society. Daily dose of Saas- bahu culture, crime, vulgarity and western culture is making us forget the age old Indian values handed down to us by our ancestors. We are forgetting how to show respect to our parents, our teachers and above all our motherland.

Amongst this gloom some shows on Indian History such as ‘Chandragupta Maurya’ on Imagine TV, came as breath of fresh air. This show ‘Chandragupta Maurya’ was an epic historical show about greatest Raj Gurus of Indian history ‘Chanakya’ senior Acharya of Takshila. He became the chief adviser and Prime Minister of one of the greatest emperors in Indian history “Chandragupta Maurya”. Over last 1 year, this show connected with audience of all ages including children. Its dedicated viewers even applied Chanakya’s teachings successfully in their daily lives. Their children were also learning about true India.

Unfortunately such good Historical shows such as ‘Chandragupta Maurya’ & ‘Veer Shivaji’ are closed down for crass commercial reasons and likewise Imagine TV Channel was shutdown abruptly in April this year citing lack of profitability.

Deeply hurt and anxious fans immediately got together and made the Facebook group SaveCgm of their own with a demand of resuming the show. Sony TV has agreed to adopt this show, however the American owners of Imagine TV, Turners Broadcasting are now holding our History to ransom for last 3 months by not given an NOC to it so that it can resume on some other TV channel.

Point is where is the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Information and broadcasting? Is’nt it their duty to look after Indian History and culture and see that Indian culture survives and thrives on TV. Is it merely a game of Profits and TRP and there is no place for India amongst TV shows dominated by Western Values & Ethos of capitalism.

Come join us in our fight to bring back Indian History in our daily lives. Whenever India will be threatened whether physically or culturally many more Anand Maths will rise and come forward to protect ‘Maa Bharati’.
